TRAVERSE AREA MODEL PILOTS SOCIETY

Traverse Area Model Pilots Society, or T.R.A.M.P.S. was founded in August of 1975 with a group of 21 persons. This club was originally formed to establish and promote model aviation and related interests. Currently the club has evolved into the exciting field of model radio control (R/C) aircraft.

Building and flying skill levels within the club include novice, sportsman, advanced, and expert. Types of aircraft built and flown vary, including trainers, sport, scale, jets, warbirds, park flyers, giant scale, and helicopters, all using power sources from electric, to glow power and gasoline engines.

Club members enjoy year-round activities including monthly meetings, newsletter, model building instruction, flight training, social events, static displays, flying demos, fun-fly events, airshows, and contests with prizes.

Plowman Field is located 19 miles west of Traverse City on the east side of Plowman road 1/2 mile north of M72, with a 400' x 50' runway running North/South.

The club is also in the process of creating a new flying field at the south end of Green Lake Airport off Youker road, south of Interlochen.

BEGINNERS

Building and flying a radio controlled model can be an exciting and rewarding experience. T.R.A.M.P.S. provides the novice with the guidence and training needed to become an accomplished R/C pilot. Many aircraft can be purchased ready made or almost ready to fly.

Our skilled flight instructors can assist you in choosing a good trainer aircraft that will enable you to learn to build and fly a radio controlled model airplane. Upon completion of your R/C aircraft, the T.R.A.M.P.S. Pilot Training Program will lead you through the ground school, safety, preflight checklist, and basic flight maneuvers associated with radio controlled flying. Upon completion of the program you will be signed off by one of our instructors giving you the opportunity to "solo" and earn your "wings", which allow you to use any of our fields at your leasure as a T.RA.M.P.S. member.
